MADE IN THE USA - These were designed and sculpted by Thor, and produced in-house by David O'Connell (The Shrunken Monkey) who has recently joined the TikiLand crew (click here for more info about this news).
Each mug is unique and antiqued slightly differently. We've included a photo with three mugs that shows a sample of the range of differences. This mug has a fairly 'dry to the touch' feeling.

Koro Sea Fijee Mermaid Tiki Mug

The "Fiji Mermaid" or otherwise known as a "FeeJee Mermaid" is a forever debated mystery of scientific and maritime lore. Earliest accounts and descriptions of these strange creatures of the sea date back to ancient Japan and China, where fishermen described coming across these half fish, half humanoid wonders. Many claimed them to be real and some were said to be dried and kept closely in the possessions being superstitious of showing them to the public for profit.

Through the ages, the tales grew and some of the early "fakes" were created as taxidermy oddities....usually half fish and half monkey specimens. The line between which were "real'' and what were hoaxes began to blur, but many fishermen and sailors swore they actually either saw or had once known someone who possessed one alive or well preserved.

In the mid 1800's the legend reached to the West, and P.T Barnum created a fake "FeeJee Mermaid" that stunned the crowds. Robert Ripley also acquired and commissioned fakes to be seen in his museums.

These mugs are based on sculptures which I had previously created that I felt are the most "authentic" replicas of what was long described as a "real" mystery of the sea. A species, undocumented that, once roamed the ocean reefs near the Fijian Islands, said to be caught in the nets of fishermen by accident.

These mugs will make a great centerpiece for display and conversation in any collection of mugs or curiosities.

About this Tiki Mug:

Mug photos show the mug in indoor lighting, which closely simulates outdoor sunlight. No filters have been used on these photos. We feel these photos most closely represent the colors in-person. Due to the nature of glaze and lighting, the color may appear different based on what lighting the mug is in.
Small Batch Limited Edition - while not a numbered edition, we only produced 100 of these.
This mug holds about 20oz (varies slightly mug to mug), and is about 7-3/8 inches tall.

These are ceramic mugs intended for cold or room temperature beverages only.
All of our ceramics are handmade. Each mug varies slightly and is unique, and is not the exact mug photographed here, although we try for it to be as identical as possible when produced by hand. During ceramic production sometimes there can be small variations with glaze, color, texture, cleanup, etc.
We guarantee mugs not to arrive with structural cracks or chips, and will replace them at our expense if they arrive to you in this condition.
Only one mug included.
While technically this can be put in a dishwasher, we only recommend hand washing as this is a functional piece of art.

I love my mermaid. It is so fun to drink out of at parties. Absolutely the cutest thing.

Truly a amazing mug

I got a ready to ship version of this bat tiki mug, I will say it’s the first tiki mug I ever owned and the quality of it is amazing. The best part (kind a of a random luck thing) is the day it arrived, landed on international bat appreciation day.

I love the items that came with the membership. I do NOT like how the sales go about. I believe members should have at a minimum 12-24 hrs advance notice on sales. In most cases sales are advertised on the site before it drops in members emails. Basically there’s no advantage of being a member (except a small discount) unless your after the exclusive mug. I don’t regret but doubt I’ll do again. I personally joined in hopes I can catch limited quantity mugs before offered to others. Simply not the case. I still LOVE TikiLand!

This year multiple of these early, members only, releases have actually sold out and the mugs were never offered to non-members.
